Where We Started
The Hughenden Oilmen’s Golf Tournament was born over a few refreshments one Men’s Night in 2008 after a round on our Hughenden Golf Course and a steak.
The conversation that night was about the Oilmen’s tournaments in Hardisty, Wainwright and Consort and as the night wore on and the refreshments kept coming the thought came to the group: “why isn’t there an Oilmen’s tournament in Hughenden?” The group remarked that someone should do something about it, and that there should be an Oilmen’s in Hughenden!!
Like many good ideas that are hatched over a night of fun, this one was forgotten by most of the group. However, Patti Hovde overheard the conversation, and contacted Gary Morrison (as a Director of the Golf Course) and asked if he was interested in helping start an Oilmen’s Tournament in Hughenden. Word quickly spread and Gary was contacted by Dale Roadhouse, Bill Gilbertson, Riley Morrison, Les Horn, and Stacy Swanson who were all eager to help. They got to work to host the first event on Saturday, September 13, 2008.
Where We Are Now
This summer we will be hosting our 16th Annual Event. Over the past 16 years, we have donated over $55,000 to the community with the help of our sponsors and participants!
